The PMPĀ® exam updated on July 9, 2026, aligned to the PMBOKĀ® Guide Eighth Edition and the new Exam Content Outline (ECO). The update reflects modern project environments including AI-enabled delivery, sustainability considerations, and stronger business alignment.

Rebalanced Domain Weightings

Business Environment increased from 8% to 26%, while the People domain reduced to 33% and the Process domain adjusted to 41%.

New & Expanded Topics

Includes AI in project management, sustainability considerations, and stronger focus on value delivery beyond traditional outputs.

Enhanced Exam Format

180 questions in 240 minutes with two 10-minute breaks. New question types include case studies, graphics interpretation, and drag-and-drop scenarios.

  • 36 months (3 years) of project management experience
  • 4,500 hours leading and directing projects within the past 8 years
  • 35 hours of project management education or CAPMĀ® certification

Eligibility Option 2: Secondary Degree Holders

  • High School Diploma or Global Equivalent
  • 60 months (5 years) of project management experience
  • 7,500 hours leading and directing projects within the past 8 years
  • 35 hours of project management education or CAPMĀ® certification
